Police have arrested a notorious smuggler named Delowar Hossain, 32, from a border hut in Dowarabazar upazila of Sunamganj.
He is named in 11 criminal cases including murder, attack on BGB, drug trafficking, smuggling and has six pending arrest warrants against him.
To evade arrest, the main ringleader of border smuggling had been hiding for a long time in a hut built at the international border. Police arrested him in a strategic special undercover operation.
Police conducted the operation on Wednesday night, July 22 in the Moularpar area of Banglabazar union under the upazila.
According to police sources, arrested Delowar Hossain is the son of Rafiqul Islam alias Rafu of Moularpar village under No. 1 Banglabazar union in Dowarabazar upazila. He is known as an identified smuggler and key drug dealer in the border area.
A total of 11 separate cases were filed against him at Dowarabazar Police Station between 2022 and 2026. The cases include murder, attack on BGB at the border, narcotics, and smuggling.

Police said Delowar had built a hut in an isolated spot near the Bangladesh-India international border to dodge law enforcement agencies.
Based on a tip-off, an operation led by Dowarabazar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Tanjir Ahmed surrounded the area in disguise. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ashraf Khan, ASI Abu Naim, and ASI Md Amir Hossain Sikder assisted in the operation.
Later, police arrested him red-handed during the special drive.
Dowarabazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tarikul Islam Talukder confirmed the matter.
‘The arrested Delowar Hossain is an identified smuggler in the area and a fugitive accused in multiple cases with warrants,’ the OC said.

‘Process is underway to send him to the learned court after taking further legal action. Such drives will continue to curb crime and maintain law and order in the area,’ he added.
