The Japan-based groom who left his wedding ceremony in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura without getting married after allegedly not being served a whole goat has married again.

Junaid Mia confirmed the news in a Facebook post around 1am on Tuesday. The wedding ceremony took place around 11pm on Monday at the home of the bride’s maternal uncle in Niamatpur village of Kasba upazila.

The new bride is Jannat Akter, daughter of Jaher Mia of Nurpur village in Akhaura. She is reportedly a second-year HSC student at a local women’s college.

In his Facebook post, Junaid wrote that the marriage had finally taken place and asked everyone to pray for a peaceful and happy married life.

Junaid’s younger brother Parvez confirmed the marriage and said the dowry-free marriage settlement, or denmohor, was fixed at Tk 600,000.

Earlier on Monday, Junaid had left his first wedding ceremony without getting married after an alleged dispute over the absence of a whole goat in the traditional wedding feast known as khadre. The incident, which took place in Tolatala village of Dharkhar union in Akhaura, quickly went viral on social media.

On Tuesday morning, Junaid posted allegations against the family of his first bride. He claimed that after the meal, the bride’s family demanded a kabin amount 10 times higher than what had previously been agreed upon. He said an argument broke out after his family refused to accept the demand and that they were asked to leave the wedding venue.

He also claimed that the items brought for the bride were later returned and that he was threatened after trying to contact the bride’s family.

The bride’s family, however, denied the allegations. They said both families had agreed in writing on August 14 to a kabin of Tk 200,000 in cash, and that Monir Hossain, a representative of the groom’s family, had signed the agreement.
