Bangladesh will play in FIFA World Cup one day, says sports adviser

Youth and Sports Adviser Md Aminul Haque on Sunday expressed optimism that Bangladesh would one day qualify for the FIFA World Cup, saying it is a dream he hopes to see realised in the future.

He made the remarks while responding to a question from journalists at the Directorate of Information conference room at the Secretariat. Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapan was also present.

The sports adviser thanked the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for arranging the free broadcast of the FIFA World Cup, saying the initiative had been welcomed by football fans across the country.

Responding to a question about when Bangladesh could play in the World Cup, Aminul Haque said the country's football supporters passionately back teams such as Brazil and Argentina but also aspire to see Bangladesh compete on the sport's biggest stage.

"I share that dream and hope," he said, adding that he would not set a specific timeframe for achieving the goal.

Reflecting on his experience as a former player, he said football had long suffered from various limitations and a lack of necessary facilities. Now, with the responsibility of overseeing the sector, efforts are underway to address those shortcomings, and visible progress has already been made.

He said Bangladesh had effectively started its football development journey from the ground up and expressed confidence that the country could eventually reach the highest level of international football.

"We have made the beginning. Whether it takes 10 years, 20 years or even longer, I dream that Bangladesh will one day play in the World Cup," he said.
