No proof of Sahabuddin-Hasina phone call in London: Salahuddin

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said there is no evidence that President Md. Shahbuddin spoke over the phone with deposed Sheikh Hasina during his medical trip in London.

HM responded to queries from the journalists regarding this matter on Sunday, 26 July. He added, “We saw it in newspapers. If a newspaper publishes such news, they should be asked about their evidence. We have no such information.”

“In today’s internet era, nobody needs to visit London to talk to someone. It seems absurd to me. If someone wants to talk, they can do it from here as well,” He said.

These remarks were made at the Home Ministry conference room in the Secretariat at noon.

Home Minister further said, during his tenure, especially towards the end of autocracy, throughout the interim government, and for the past 5-6 months under the current political government; the former President performed his constitutional duties according to rules and regulations.

"We received the President's cooperation. During that period, he enjoyed constitutional privileges and immunity, prohibiting any criminal prosecution in court. If anyone makes statements outside this context, they have the freedom to do so. However, we have found nothing here worthy of taking into cognizance," the minister stated.
