A rare wild animal, identified as a civet, was rescued in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna and later released into a forest with the assistance of the upazila administration.

The animal was found trapped in a fishing net set by Milon Hossain of Kumaragara village under Bilchalan Union on Sunday morning (July 26). After searching online, Milon identified the animal as a rare species of civet.

Later, the matter was brought to the attention of Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Musa Naser Chowdhury. In the afternoon, the civet was released into the Kumaragara forest with the assistance of Ratan Ali Biswas, an official of the Forest Department.

UNO Musa Naser Chowdhury said the rare wild animal is an endangered and harmless species. During the rainy season, civets often enter human settlements as their natural habitats become submerged.

“We reached the spot, rescued the animal unharmed and released it into a dense forest. Since it is a vulnerable and nocturnal animal, it has been returned to its natural habitat,” he said, urging people to cooperate in protecting wildlife.
