
A man was killed during a clash between two groups of villagers over the naming of a local market in Bhairab upazila on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Masud Mia, 30, a resident of Akbarnagar village.
According to police, residents of Akbarnagar and Mirachar villages in Kalikaprasad Union have been at odds for several years over the name of a market located near the Akbarnagar bus stand.
The long-running dispute escalated into a violent confrontation on Monday, during which Masud was allegedly beaten and critically injured.
Locals rushed him to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Police said the situation is under control and further investigation into the incident is underway.
