Upazila Jubo League president detained at Sylhet airport

Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Jubo League President Sheikh Ehsan Ahmed Ujjal has been detained at Sylhet’s MAG Osmani International Airport while leaving the country.

Immigration police at the airport detained him.

Airport sources said Ujjal was a passenger on a Saudi Arabia-bound flight. He was detained before boarding.

His family members said Ujjal was going to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He had taken farewell and prayers from the imam of a mosque before leaving. He was due to return home on November 2 after Umrah. The family learned of his detention at the airport in the meantime.

Md Ratan Sheikh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station, said they had heard that the Jubo League president had been detained at the airport. “Police are going to Sylhet to take him. He will be brought to Sadar Police Station tonight,” he said.
