23 Bangladeshis returned from US on special flight amid immigration crackdown

A total of 23 Bangladeshi nationals have been deported from the United States and returned home on a special flight operated by Omni Air on Thursday morning.
The returnees arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on flight OAE2323, according to sources concerned.
The deported Bangladeshis had reportedly left the country in 2014 at different times in search of better employment opportunities with work permit visas. Later, they stayed in countries including the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Brazil and Peru before entering the United States illegally by crossing borders.
After reaching the US, they worked at different establishments but failed to meet legal immigration requirements. US immigration authorities subsequently took legal action against them for violating immigration laws. Following completion of necessary legal procedures, they were sent back to Bangladesh on the special flight.
Upon arrival at the airport, BRAC provided Tk 5,000 in financial assistance to each returnee and arranged light refreshments for them.
After completing immigration and other formalities, they left the airport at around 1:30pm.
In recent times, several Bangladeshi nationals have been deported from different countries over alleged violations of immigration laws. Authorities and migration experts have been urging people seeking overseas employment to use legal channels and comply with the immigration regulations of destination countries.
