Prime Minister Tarque Rahman on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting to discuss reopening closed state-owned factories, expediting privatisation initiatives and attracting domestic and foreign investment to revive industrial production.

The meeting was held at 3:30pm at the Cabinet Division conference room in the Bangladesh Secretariat, with the prime minister in the chair.

During the meeting, officials discussed measures to quickly restart state-owned industrial units that have remained closed for years, remove bureaucratic hurdles and bring dynamism to the process through private investment. The prime minister directed the concerned authorities to complete the process by 2026.

He also instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to take effective measures to ensure an investment-friendly environment in the country.

Among those present at the meeting were Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, and senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
