Cox’s Bazar, Aug 1: A tourist from Khulna died after falling into the sea while parasailing at Cox’s Bazar beach on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Shouvik Roy. The accident occurred around noon at the Darianagar area along the Cox’s Bazar Marine Drive, at a parasailing facility owned by a person named Farid, said Mahbub Alam, a beach worker of the Cox’s Bazar district administration.

He also said a group of nine tourists from Khulna had arrived in Cox’s Bazar and were staying at Ocean View Paradise Hotel in Kolatoli. While parasailing in Darianagar on Saturday afternoon, the rope reportedly snapped, causing Shouvik to fall into the sea.

He was rescued and taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the incident, saying that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Necessary legal action will be taken after the post-mortem examination.

At the time of filing this report, the body was still at the hospital. The victim’s friends and relevant officials from the administration were not available for comment.
