
The death toll from a boat capsize in Moyar Haor of Jagannathpur upazila has risen to four after rescuers recovered the bodies of two more missing passengers on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Hemendra Debnath, 37, and Adhir Debnath, 35, both residents of East Bhabanipur area under Jagannathpur Municipality.
Earlier on Saturday, fire service divers recovered the bodies of Satyendra Nath Sati, 65, and Arun Debnath, 45, from the same haor.
Officer-in-Charge of Jagannathpur Police Station Shafiqul Islam said the bodies were handed over to their families without autopsies as the relatives raised no objections.
According to police and local sources, nine people were returning home by boat after attending a Hindu kirtan in neighbouring Bharout village when the boat capsized in the Baluchar area of Moyar Haor around 3:30am on Saturday.
Five passengers managed to swim ashore, while the remaining four went missing.
Divers from the Sunamganj and Sylhet Fire Service conducted a joint rescue operation, recovering two bodies on Saturday and the remaining two on Sunday.
