A court in Habiganj on Sunday granted bail to 11 leaders and activists of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), including district unit president Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, in a case filed over an alleged attack on leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
Judicial Magistrate of Habiganj Abdul Mannan granted the bail after the accused appeared before the court and submitted their bail petitions.
Defence lawyer said they convinced the court that the case was “baseless”, as the complaint did not mention any specific date, time, or details of whom the accused allegedly assaulted. Considering these points, the court granted bail to the accused.
The other JCD leaders and activists who received bail are�"Brindaban Government College JCD member secretary Ashrafuzzaman Riaz, district JCD joint organising secretary Asiful Islam Emon, college JCD leader Mozaqkir Hossain Emon, M H Shimul, Al Saimun, Mahfuz Chowdhury, Ishtiaq Rahman Ifti, Sheikh Sabbir, Nazmul Hossain Oni and Roxy Islam.
Earlier, on Wednesday, NCP’s student wing Habiganj district unit Chhatra Shakti convener Tanmoy Taher Rubel filed the case with Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station.
According to the case statement, JCD activists allegedly attacked an NCP motorcade after the party’s procession in Habiganj on July 28, leaving several NCP leaders, including central-level leaders, injured.
