Victims seek probe into series of 'False Cases' over property dispute

A sitting judge using his official position and influence has been allegedly accused of filing a series of criminal false cases in various districts through various people against traders and land owners over a property dispute in Gazipur.
The allegations were made at a press conference on Sunday, where the victims called for an independent investigation and government action.
The press conference was held at the Law Reporters Forum office in the Supreme Court Bar Association building. Touhidul Islam Mojibor presented a written statement on behalf of the victims.
Touhidul alleged that Judge Ariful Islam Sohel, who is married to the daughter of his stepbrother, has been trying to take control of ancestral property in Outpara under Gazipur City Corporation. He claimed the judge used his influence to file false cases against him, his family members and others linked to the property.
Touhidul said he and his five sisters are the legal owners of the land. He said they have been occupying it peacefully for years and have built a market and a house there. He added that all land records, mutation papers and land tax documents are in their names.
He also alleged that the judge's wife asked traders at Haji Hossain Wholesale Market to pay rent to her without any court order or legal ownership documents. According to him, traders who refused were later named in criminal cases, including gang rape and robbery cases, filed in different districts.
Touhidul further claimed that he faced several criminal cases, including human trafficking cases, between 2016 and 2021, and was arrested more than once. He said he was later acquitted in the Chattogram cases.
He said he has sought an independent investigation and requested protection for his family, the traders and the disputed property by submitting applications to the Chief Justice, the Law Minister and other government offices.
