Main accused in Hathazari Nurul Azim murder case held

Police have arrested Md Didarul Alam as the prime accused in the sensational Nurul Azim murder case in Hathazari, Chittagong.

A special drive from Keraniganj area of the capital was conducted by the police and he was arrested around 11:30PM on Sunday, August 2.

Detained Didarul Alam, 47, is the son of late Abdul Monaf of Hamid Ali Bari in the Purbo Dewannagar area under Hathazari upazila.

According to sources, Nurul Azim, 40, went to fishing near his house on Friday, July 10. He was the son of Nurul Islam of Khalifapara in Ward No. 9 under Mekhal Union of the upazila and father of three children.

An altercation broke out with two men over a previous enmity with Azim. At one stage, the two men hacked him to death with sharp weapons.

Following the incident, the victim's wife, Raju Aktar, filed a murder case with Hathazari Model Station, naming four people (Case number 14). The arrestee, Md Didarul Alam alias Didar, was the prime accused in the case. He had been in hiding since the case was filed.

Earlier, police arrested two other accused, Mohammad Morshed alias Akil, 30 and Md Ali Akbar, 55, during drives in Hathazari and the Bakalia area of the city.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Hathazari Circle) of Chittagong District, Kazi Md Tarek Aziz, confirmed the arrest. He said the process to produce the arrested accused before the court is underway.
