Bangladesh urges India to stop Hasina’s political activities

Bangladesh has requested India’s cooperation to prevent fugitive former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and members of banned organisations from using Indian territory to make political statements or engage in activities that could destabilise Bangladesh.

The request was made during a courtesy meeting between Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir and newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Monday.

During the meeting, Bangladesh said such activities could undermine the positive momentum in bilateral relations. The discussion also included reports circulating on social media about a possible public statement by Sheikh Hasina on August 5.

The Indian High Commissioner said he would look into the matter and remain attentive to Bangladesh’s concerns.

Both sides also reviewed bilateral relations and discussed issues of mutual interest. They expressed optimism about further strengthening ties through mutual respect, trust and continued dialogue.

In a separate statement, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said the meeting focused on expanding people-centric cooperation based on shared interests and mutual benefit. It also reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with the Bangladesh government to advance the development aspirations of the people of both countries.
