Beware of fb scholarships

The growing trend of portraying fully funded scholarships as easily attainable through social media has raised concerns among education observers, who warn that exaggerated claims are creating unrealistic expectations among Bangladeshi students aspiring to study abroad.

In recent years, Facebook has become flooded with posts suggesting that securing a fully funded scholarship is almost effortless. Some users publicly declare that they have guaranteed funding immediately after enrolling in undergraduate or master's programmes, giving the impression that admission and financial support from leading international universities are readily available to anyone.

However, experts say the reality is far more complex. International scholarships are awarded through rigorous and highly competitive selection processes. For research-based PhD programmes, funding decisions are generally based on an applicant's academic performance, research experience, publications, research proposal and, in many cases, the recommendation or evaluation of a prospective supervisor. Although fully funded opportunities are also available for undergraduate and master's studies in several countries, they remain limited and are offered only to highly qualified candidates after careful assessment.

Education analysts argue that misleading or exaggerated social media content may encourage students to develop false expectations. Many applicants spend considerable time, effort and money pursuing opportunities based on incomplete or inaccurate information, only to face disappointment later.

They stress that studying abroad is achievable, but it requires careful planning, strong academic credentials, language proficiency where required, accurate information and a realistic understanding of the admission and scholarship process.

Observers believe that universities' official admission guidelines and scholarship policies, not viral social media posts, should remain the primary source of information for prospective students. They also urge content creators and education consultants to provide verified and responsible guidance so that students can make informed decisions about their academic future.
