Police recovered the severed head and two hands of an unidentified young woman from beneath a culvert in the Madartek Baganbari area of Sabujbagh in the capital on Thursday morning.
The body parts were found around 8AM under a culvert near the canal in the area after police responded to information from locals.
Confirming the incident, Sabujbagh Police Station SI Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui said the victim's severed head and two hands, found in a shopping bag, were recovered from a pile of garbage beneath the culvert.
The remaining parts of the body have not yet been recovered, and efforts are underway to locate them, the police official added.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) forensic team has been informed to help identify the victim.
The recovered body parts were sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy.
Police are also collecting CCTV footage from the surrounding area as part of the investigation.
