Emraan Hashmi's "Awarapan 2" gets UA 16+ certificate after 9 CBFC cuts

Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 has been cleared for theatrical release by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA 16+ certificate after the makers implemented nine modifications directed by the censor board.

According to the censor certificate dated August 5, 2026, the film has a final runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds. It has been certified in Hindi with English subtitles, allowing viewers aged 16 and above to watch the film with parental guidance.

The CBFC instructed the filmmakers to include disclaimers related to drug use and child trafficking, as both themes feature prominently in the film. Despite the film carrying anti-drug messages, the board also required the inclusion of a static anti-smoking warning.

The certification board further directed the makers to replace obscene language in both the audio track and subtitles. Several violent sequences were ordered to be toned down or shortened, with some scenes reduced by around 50%. A scene depicting drug consumption by snorting was also modified. In addition, the end-credit music was adjusted to better align with the film's overall soundtrack.

Following the required changes, approximately four minutes of footage were removed, while 20 seconds were replaced, resulting in the certified runtime of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi, is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
