Bangladesh High Commission in South Africa marks July Uprising Day

The Bangladesh High Commission in South Africa held a discussion marking July Uprising Day with the participation of members of the Bangladeshi community in Pretoria.


The programme, held at the High Commission on Wednesday, was chaired by Bangladesh High Commissioner Shah Ahmed Shafi. The event began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the President and the Prime Minister and the screening of a documentary produced to commemorate the day.


Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Shah Ahmed Shafi paid tribute to those killed during the July Uprising and urged all Bangladeshis to contribute to building a democratic, inclusive and prosperous Bangladesh inspired by their sacrifices.


He also called on expatriate Bangladeshis to play an active role in upholding the country’s image abroad and strengthening Bangladesh-South Africa relations.


Representatives of the Bangladeshi community, business leaders, professionals, students, journalists, diplomats and officials and staff of the Bangladesh High Commission attended the event.
