5 killed, 14 injured in road crashes

Five people were killed and at least 14 others injured in separate road accidents in Gurudaspur of Natore and Raiganj of Sirajganj on Saturday, a day after road crashes in Bogura and Sylhet claimed 16 lives.

Police said several of the injured were in critical condition.

In Natore, three people were killed and four others injured when a passenger bus collided with a cattle-carrying three-wheeler, locally known as a bhutbhuti, in the Naya Bazar area of the Banpara-Hatikumrul Highway in Gurudaspur on Saturday morning.

The deceased were cattle traders Abdur Rahman, 70, Akkas Ali, 55, and his brother Jahangir Alam, 46, of Laxmipur-Dhamaniapara area in Baraigram.

Meanwhile, in Sirajganj, two people, including a bus driver, were killed and at least 10 others injured in a bus-truck collision in the Nalka Overpass area of Raiganj around 1:30am on Saturday.

Md Amirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station, said a cargo truck coming from Sirajganj town collided with a Shah Fateh Ali Paribahan bus travelling from Dinajpur to Chattogram as the bus was crossing the overpass.
