Police recovered the bodies of a fish farm worker and a five-year-old child in two separate incidents in Fakirhat upazila of Bagerhat on Sunday (August 9).
The deceased were identified as Aiyub Ali Khan, 61, son of late Mobarak Ali Khan hailing from Dakuwa area in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal, and Rakib Sheikh, 5, son of Rabbi Sheikh of Paikpara village in Fakirhat Sadar union.
Police said locals spotted the body of fish farm worker Aiyub Ali Khan around 9:00AM at a commercial fish enclosure owned by Bachchu Miah in Mulghar area.
After receiving information, a team from Fakirhat Model Police Station reached the scene, prepared an inquest report, and recovered the body.
In a separate incident at around 12:00PM, five-year-old Rakib fell into a rainwater-filled dung pit in the yard of his homestead at Paikpara village.
Family members later recovered the child and rushed him to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, where duty doctor Dr Tarif Uddin declared him dead on arrival. Dr Tarif noted that the child had drowned in the pit.
Fakirhat Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Saiful Islam said the fish farm worker's body was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Meanwhile, the body of the child was handed over to his family following completion of necessary legal procedures.
