National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam has warned that any move to normalise diplomatic relations with India without resolving the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina will not be acceptable to the people of Bangladesh.
In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday night, Nahid alleged that India had been allowing Hasina to use its territory for “anti-Bangladesh activities”, describing it as a direct affront to Bangladesh’s sovereignty, judiciary and democratic mandate.
“For the past two years, India has been using its territory to provide an opportunity for convicted murderer Sheikh Hasina to carry out anti-Bangladesh activities. This is a direct insult to the sovereignty, judiciary and democratic verdict of the people of Bangladesh,” he said.
