Bangladesh Cricket Team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed confidence ahead of the first test match Against Australia that they want to focus on session-by-session performance and drag the match to the fifth day.
Mentionable, Bangladesh is going to face Australia on Australian soil after 23 long years. The two match series begins at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin at 6:30AM (Bangladesh local time) on Thursday (August 13).
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Shanto acknowledged the tough challenge posed by Australia's elite pace trio; Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood - alongside veteran spinner Nathan Lyon. The four bowlers share over 1,600 Test wickets combined.
"Handling the bounce is key here. Facing the new ball will be our biggest challenge. They have a world-class bowling attack, but this is a great opportunity for us to challenge them," Shanto said.
Bangladesh suffered an inning defeat against the Cricket Australia XI in a three-day warm-up match, getting bowled out for just 54 runs in the second innings. However, Shanto dismissed the setback as part of the preparation process.
"It was just a bad day during our preparation. We prepared well in home conditions over the last few months," the skipper added.
Shanto also shared positive news regarding wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das, confirming he recovered from injury and is fully fit for the opening test.
"Yes, he is now 100 per cent fit," Shanto stated.
