Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has taken an indefinite break from football following the death of his father, Jorge Messi. He is deeply grieved and emotionally shattered.

Inter Miami said they will provide him with all necessary time and support during this difficult period.

Argentine sports media Doble Amarilla reported that Messi has not given any date for his return to Miami. This creates major uncertainty over when he will return to the pitch for Inter Miami.

Jorge Messi passed away on August 8 at a hospital in Rosario, Argentina. He was 68. The 39-year-old Inter Miami captain returned to Argentina with his family to attend the funeral.

Football portal Goal.com reported that Messi did not mention how long he will stay away. They also raised questions about whether the superstar might consider retirement. However, the club, teammates, and coaching staff have rallied around Messi.

Inter Miami paid tribute to Jorge Messi during their recent Leagues Cup match. A minute of silence was observed before kickoff. Jorge’s name appeared on the big screen, and Miami players wore black armbands.

Fans displayed banners reading "Stay Strong, Leo" in the 10th minute.

Miami defender Facundo Mura said after the match that the squad is deeply saddened. He added that the team fully supports Messi whenever he feels ready to return.

Inter Miami coach Guillermo Hoyos acknowledged the severe emotional toll. He stated that it is hard to cope with such a painful experience.

Messi will miss Inter Miami’s crucial CONCACAF Leagues Cup match against Lyon on Thursday. The Argentine forward is prioritizing family during this grief-stricken period.

Messi was in excellent form this season. He scored 15 goals and provided eight assists in 18 matches for Inter Miami. His absence could impact the team significantly.
