New BGB border outpost opened in Panchagarh to boost border security

A new Border Outpost (BOP) has been inaugurated in Panchagarh to strengthen surveillance along the Bangladesh-India border and prevent push-ins, drug trafficking and smuggling.

Brigadier General A S M Nasher, Commander of the BGB’s North-West Region, inaugurated the Madhupada BOP at Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Thursday by hoisting the national flag.

The new BOP has been established as the distance between existing BOPs along the border was relatively large, making it necessary to strengthen surveillance and prevent cross-border crimes. The new outpost is expected to increase patrols and monitoring in the area and enhance overall border security.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Brig Gen Nasher said the BGB was working with vigilance to maintain effective surveillance along the border and prevent human trafficking, drug trafficking and smuggling.

He said the new BOP had been established along a 22-kilometre stretch of border between the Tokapara and Ghagra BOPs of the Nilphamari 56 BGB Battalion.

“We hope this BGB camp will play an effective role in preventing all kinds of smuggling. I believe the inauguration of this BOP will further enhance the operational capabilities of the Nilphamari Battalion,” he said.

He urged the BGB personnel assigned to the new outpost to perform their duties with dedication, honesty, sincerity and professionalism and sought cooperation from all concerned in maintaining border security.

Commander of the BGB Thakurgaon Sector Colonel Mohammad Suruj Mia, Commanding Officer of Nilphamari 56 BGB Lieutenant Colonel Taifur Hasan Mahmud and other senior BGB officials attended the ceremony.

Earlier, Brig Gen A S M Nasher inaugurated the Madhupada BOP by cutting a ribbon. He later reviewed a parade and hoisted the national flag with state honours before unveiling the BOP's nameplate by pressing a switch.

He also planted a mango sapling on the BOP premises. A prayer was offered for the welfare of the country and its people and for continued border security.
