SSC pass rate increases sharply in Noakhali

 
NOAKHALI, Aug 13: Noakhali recorded the lowest SSC pass rate among the six districts under the Cumilla Education Board this year, while Noakhali Government Girls’ High School once again achieved the best result in the district.
According to the results published on Monday, all 248 students who appeared for the SSC examination from Noakhali Government Girls’ High School passed. Among them, 152 secured GPA-5. The school retained its top position in the district for the second consecutive year.
Noakhali Zilla School also posted a strong result, with 230 of its 234 examinees passing. A total of 131 students secured GPA-5, giving the school a pass rate of 98.29 per cent.
The overall pass rate in Noakhali stood at 59.98 percent, which was 5.44 percentage points lower than the Cumilla Board's average of 65.42 percent.
Of the 10,357 male examinees in the district, 6,008 passed. Among 14,726 female examinees, 9,038 passed.
A total of 1,217 students in the district secured GPA-5, while four institutions recorded a 100 per cent pass rate.
Despite ranking lowest among the six districts this year, Noakhali saw a significant improvement from last year, when its pass rate was only 40.43 per cent. The rate increased by around 19.55 percentage points this year.
Companiganj Upazila recorded the highest pass rate at 68.68 per cent. Noakhali Sadar had the highest number of GPA-5 recipients, with 630 students achieving the top grade.
Hatiya recorded the lowest pass rate among the district's upazilas at 48.70 per cent.
Mohammad Jahangir Alam, head-teacher of Noakhali Government Girls’ High School, attributed the school's success to close monitoring by teachers, regular classes, parental supervision and students' hard work.
“We will start planning from now to maintain this result next year,” he said.
