NABINAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 13: A sharp decline in SSC results at Tiara Ayesha Begum High School has left parents and residents concerned about the quality of education at the institution.
The school had a pass rate of 88.61 per cent in the 2025 SSC examinations, with seven students securing GPA-5. But this year, the pass rate fell dramatically to 32.81 per cent.
Of the 64 registered candidates, five did not sit for the examination. Of the remaining 59 students, only 21 passed.
The sudden decline has sparked concerns among parents and local residents, who say the school had built a strong reputation over the years for producing successful students.
Some locals blamed what they described as weaknesses in the school's management, internal conflicts and political influence for the poor results. They also alleged that the formation of a new ad hoc managing committee and disputes among local groups had negatively affected the academic environment.
They said social conflicts and factionalism in the village were also affecting students, with some becoming involved in local disputes instead of focusing on their studies.
Nabinagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rakibul Islam said the result was “very disappointing” and that the administration would investigate the school's overall situation, including its managing committee, before taking necessary measures.
Upazila Secondary Education Officer Al Mamun said the authorities were identifying the subjects in which students performed poorly and would take necessary steps based on the findings.
Parents have called for an impartial investigation into the reasons behind the sharp decline, filling vacant teaching posts and improving the school's academic environment.
They also urged the authorities to keep political and factional disputes away from the institution and strengthen communication between teachers and parents.
“We cannot allow our children's future to be jeopardised by factionalism or disputes,” several concerned parents said, calling for collective efforts to restore the school's educational environment.
