After three consecutive increases, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices in the domestic market. The price of 22-carat gold has been cut by Tk 2,158 per bhori, bringing the price, including VAT, to Tk 234,621.
BAJUS announced the new prices in a notice on Friday (August 14). The revised rates came into effect at 10:00am the same day.
According to the notice, the price of Tejabi gold (pure gold) has declined in the local market. Considering the overall market situation, BAJUS revised the prices of gold, including VAT.
Under the new rates, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 234,621, including VAT. A bhori of 21-carat gold will cost Tk 224,065, while 18-carat gold will be priced at Tk 192,398 per bhori. The price of gold under the traditional system has been set at Tk 157,172 per bhori.
BAJUS said the revised prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops until further notice. However, labour charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery. As VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, shops cannot collect VAT separately from customers. Previous BAJUS rules will remain in effect for jewellery exchange and purchase, excluding applicable VAT, labour charges and stone prices.
Before the latest adjustment, BAJUS had raised gold prices on the morning of August 13. The price of 22-carat gold was increased by Tk 1,133 per bhori to Tk 236,779, including VAT. At the time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 226,165 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 194,260 and traditional-system gold at Tk 158,630. Those prices took effect at 10:00am on August 13.
With the latest adjustment, gold prices have been revised 103 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Prices have been increased 51 times, reduced 51 times and adjusted once for VAT. In 2025, gold prices were revised 93 times, with 64 increases and 29 decreases.
