Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has warned that no criminal will be spared regardless of their beliefs, race, religion or influence, declaring zero tolerance for drugs, juvenile gangs and extortion.
Speaking after visiting a Durga Puja mandap at Ramakrishna Mission Ashram in Mission Para, Narayanganj, on Monday night, he said a stable law and order situation was essential to attract foreign investment and improve the economy.
He urged people to provide information about troublemakers and help maintain law and order.
The IGP said police were working to rebuild their morale, skills and capacity following the challenges after the July uprising. He also called for coordinated efforts between police and citizens to combat drugs and crime.
He added that rising drug addiction among young people was contributing to crime, while decisions had already been taken at the Prime Minister's Office to tackle juvenile gangs.
