53 AL men held in Dhaka

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 53 leaders and activists of the Awami League (AL) and its affiliated organisations from the capital’s Vatara area on Thursday night.
They were arrested from a flat in Bashundhara Residential Area around 9:05pm, said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi.
He said the AL, which faces a ban on its activities, activists had gathered at the flat to hold a preparatory meeting and organise a flash procession marking August 15.
