Govt disburses long-overdue dues to retired teachers

The long-standing hardship faced by retired teachers has come to an end as the government has released Tk 2,035 crore against 123,000 applications for outstanding retirement and welfare benefits of private-sector teachers and employees.
In some cases, individual beneficiaries received as much as Tk 600,000.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the disbursement by clicking a software system at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Saturday (August 15).
Relevant teachers and officials from all 64 districts joined the event online. The prime minister later handed over commemorative cheques to 10 teachers.
