Police on Saturday detained a youth named Ornob Das when he arrived to pay tribute at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in the capital.

Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Imdadul Islam confirmed the matter.

"The detainee has been identified as Ornob Das, hailing from Tangail. Primary investigation reveals that he is an active activist of the banned Jubo League. He is currently under interrogation," said OC Imdadul Islam.

The OC added that security has been beefed up in the Dhanmondi 32 area since Friday night surrounding August 15. Police remain fully prepared to handle any situation.
