Gas supply improves

The country has begun to see some relief after 25 days of severe gas shortages, with supplies increasing from early Saturday (August 15) as Summit’s LNG terminal resumed full operations and Excelerate Energy’s terminal returned to partial operation. 

However, the crisis may take several more days to ease completely, said the officials concerned.

Officials involved in LNG import and supply told the media that Summit’s terminal began supplying around 460 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per hour and Excelerate Energy’s terminal around 300 mmcf from 4am Saturday.

As a result, the country’s total gas supply has increased to around 2.4 billion cubic feet per day. 

Petrobangla Chairman Md Abdul Mannan said to the media that both terminals are currently supplying gas. Summit’s terminal is operating at full capacity, while Excelerate’s terminal is operating partially. 

He expressed hope that the increased supply would provide some relief to consumers.
