At least four people, including a policeman, have suffered injuries during a shootout between law enforcers and suspected drug peddlers in Narayanganj.

The incident occurred around 3pm on Saturday near the city’s Isdair Railway Line, said Md Mahbub Alam, chief of Fatullah Model Police Station.

Police said a suspected drug dealer, identified only as Jashim, was shot in the leg.

The detained suspects are identified only as Jashim, 24, and Mohon, 23.

Jashim was shot in the leg and taken to Narayanganj 300 Bed Hospital.

Police also seized a loaded pistol from him.

Sub-Inspector Md Rafiq and police personnel Badhan Chandra Sarkar and constable Rashedul of Fatullah Police Station were injured by stones thrown by the suspected drug dealers and while chasing them.

They received first aid at the same hospital. Apu Kumar Saha, a doctor at the hospital’s emergency department, said Jashim was brought in around 3:45pm with two injuries to his leg.

They were identified as gunshot wounds and he was sent for an X-ray to determine if the bullets were still lodged inside.

According to witnesses and police, Fatullah Model Police Station launched the operation after receiving reports that an armed group of “drug dealers” had taken position along the Dhaka-Narayanganj railway line in Isdair, exchanging gunfire amid a turf battle for control of the area. "bdnews24
