Presidential election: EC to start scrutinizing nomination papers from 10AM

The Election Commission (EC) is set to scrutinize the nomination papers of the candidates contesting presidential election on Sunday (August 16).

The candidates are BNP and its like-minded parties’ nominee Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the 11-party alliance’s nominee Oli Ahmed, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the 'election officer'(the Chief Election Commissioner) will begin scrutinizing the nomination papers at 10AM at the Election Commission building. The process will continue until the scrutiny is completed.

“A total of three nomination papers have been submitted. Two nomination papers have been filed for the 11-party alliance’s candidate Oli Ahmed, while one has been submitted for BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir,” Akhtar Ahmed said.

A representative from the Parliament Secretariat will also be present during the scrutiny process.

According to the election schedule, candidates can withdraw their nominations until 4PM on August 18.

The 23rd presidential election is scheduled to be held on August 20.
