A new pay scale for government employees will be implemented from the current fiscal year, Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary A B M Abdus Sattar said on Sunday.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat, he said the new pay scale is at the final stage and could be announced at any time.
He said the government would implement the new pay scale this fiscal year to fulfil its commitment. However, the move would put pressure on the economy, he added.
He said increasing employment and production would be necessary to address the economic challenges.
A draft proposal for implementing the ninth pay scale has already been finalised by the relevant secretary-level committee. The proposal recommends increasing the basic salaries of government employees by up to 100 per cent.
The Finance Division will place the proposal before the Cabinet after obtaining the Prime Minister’s approval.
