Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered illegal drugs and other substances, worth about Tk 830 crore, from January 1 to August 10 this year, while working under the North-East region, Sarail.
The information was disclosed in a press conference held by Sreemangal Battalion (46 BGB) in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar, on Monday (August 17).
Lt Col Sarker Asif Mahmud, 46-BGB commanding officer, told reporters that BGB is taking regular and intelligence-based actions for stopping smuggling, arms and drugs trafficking, and human trafficking in its 1,204-km long borders.
The items recovered included four pistols, six air guns, five pipe guns, one one-shooter gun, 40 bullets, 18.33 kg explosives, 117 detonators and 30 meters detonator wires.
Besides, BGB has informed 2,121 cubic feet of sand and 7,465 cubic feet of stones while launching drives against the extraction of natural resources illegally.
The BGB said that such type of actions would continue to boost up the security in the borders, preventing illegal activities and protecting natural resources.
