Seven Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested from the Kaharpara area along the international border in Raninagar, Murshidabad, for allegedly entering India without valid documents, police said.

The seven were arrested by Raninagar police late Wednesday night (August 19) after officers received information that a group of unidentified people had gathered near the international border. Police detained them and questioned them, but they allegedly failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding their presence in the area. They were subsequently taken to the police station.

According to police sources, all seven are residents of Rajshahi district in Bangladesh. They allegedly entered India through the India-Bangladesh international border on Monday night (August 17) and had been hiding in a field near the Kaharpara border area under Raninagar police station.

The detainees reportedly entered India in search of work and planned to travel to Chennai to work as construction labourers. As they had no valid documents permitting them to stay in India, they were sent to the Lalbagola Holding Centre.

Police are investigating how the seven entered India without valid documents and whether anyone else was involved in facilitating their entry, according to police sources.
