Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his election as the 23rd President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday (August 20), the home minister wished the newly elected president every success in carrying out his important constitutional and national responsibilities.
Salahuddin Ahmed said Mirza Fakhrul’s election as president was a highly significant and landmark event in Bangladesh’s political history and in the governance of the country.
He said the president-elect’s long political career was a remarkable record of the struggle for the rights of the people and against authoritarianism. His decades-long sacrifice, courage and patience in the struggle to restore democracy in the country would remain an important part of Bangladesh’s political history, the minister added.
The home minister further said that the election of an experienced, far-sighted and patriotic leader like Mirza Fakhrul to the country’s highest constitutional office was a proud recognition of the democratic aspirations of the people.
He expressed hope that under President Mirza Fakhrul’s capable leadership and guidance, the rule of law and the practice of multiparty democracy would be further strengthened in the country.
The minister also prayed for the newly elected president’s good health and long life.
