Two children drowned in separate incidents in Dinajpur District and Singra Upazila of Natore District in two days.
DINAJPUR: The police have detained four classmates for questioning over the death of a student who drowned in the Punarbhaba River in Mahutpara of Dinajpur Sadar Upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Limon, 16, the son of Liton Islam of Sipahi Para in Dinajpur town and a class 10 student of Tafiuddin Memorial High School, was recovered from Ulipur Village of Sadar Upazila at 1 pm on Thursday.
The arrestees are Ruhul Amin Khan, 16, Atiqur Rahman, 16, Abir Hossain, 16, and Tajnim Rahman, 17.
Citing locals, Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station (PS) SI Shahadat Hossain said after Limon disappeared in the water, the Fire Service and locals started a search. Later, a team of divers from Rangpur participated in the operation and found the body floating in the river in Ulipur Village. Later, the police recovered the body and sent it to the Dinajpur Medical College morgue for an autopsy.
SINGRA, NATORE: A two-year-old girl died after drowning in a pond at Dhakdhor Village in Lalor Union of Singra Upazila of the district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was Achhia Khatun, the daughter of Abdul Awal, a Saudi expatriate from the village.
It is known that the child died after falling into a small pond near the house around 11:30 am on Tuesday without the knowledge of her family members.
Officer-in-Charge of Singra PS Rafiqul Islam confirmed the death.
