Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wants his team to leave the celebrations of Darwin behind and concentrate entirely on the second Test in Mackay, where the Tigers have an opportunity to complete a historic series victory over Australia.

Bangladesh lead the two-Test series 1-0 after their nine-wicket victory in the opening match. A draw in Mackay will be enough to give them the series, but Shanto is refusing to let that possibility become a distraction.

His message to the team is straightforward: do not look too far ahead. Saying "Don't think too far ahead."

For Shanto, the priority is to concentrate on the next match rather than becoming consumed by the wider implications of the victory in Darwin or Bangladesh's improved position in the World Test Championship.

"How can we play this series or this Test well, that is important." Shanto said.

That mindset has become particularly important after the scale of Bangladesh's opening-Test success. The Tigers dominated key periods of the match, with Tanzid Hasan producing a century, Hasan Mahmud claiming nine wickets and Mehidy Hasan Miraz making a major impact with the ball.

But Shanto believes the team must now approach Mackay on its own terms.

The captain does not want Darwin to become a template that Bangladesh feel compelled to reproduce. Instead, the conditions and circumstances of the second Test will determine how they play.

That philosophy was already evident in his thinking before the tour, when he stressed the importance of adapting rather than arriving with a rigid plan.

"The conditions will be different, so we have to adapt as quickly as possible." Shanto added.

Australia are expected to provide a much tougher examination after their defeat in Darwin. The hosts have made changes to their batting combination and will enter the second Test knowing that only victory can keep the series level.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, have selection questions of their own, with Shoriful Islam back in contention after recovering from injury.

Yet Shanto's focus remains firmly on execution.

The captain knows that history is now within reach, but he also understands that thinking about the achievement before earning it could create unnecessary pressure.

"It was a very big win, the best win in the country's history."

The statement captures the magnitude of Darwin without changing the task ahead.

Bangladesh have already achieved something special.

Now they have five more days of Test cricket standing between them and something even bigger.

Shanto's message is clear: Celebrate Darwin later. Mackay comes first.
