12 teachers in K’ganj sacked with 21-month salary unpaid

HOSSAINPUR, KISHOREGANJ, Aug 21: Twelve part-time teachers of Hossainpur Government Model Pilot School and College have allegedly been dismissed with 21 months of salaries still unpaid.

The teachers have sought intervention from higher authorities to ensure payment of their arrears and investigate the matter.

The institution was nationalised in 2018. Since then, part-time teachers have been appointed on a temporary basis through recruitment notices when teaching posts fell vacant due to retirement and other reasons.

Of the 12 teachers, two worked in the college section, five in the day shift and five in the morning shift.

The teachers said they were initially paid regularly, but later received one month's salary every two or three months.

As a result, 21 months of salaries remained unpaid as of August 2026.

They alleged that Acting Principal Md Khairul Islam released all 12 teachers from their jobs on August 17 and 18, citing a decision of the academic council. Their outstanding salaries were not paid at the time of their dismissal.

When contacted,Acting Principal Md Khairul Islam said he took charge on March 4 and the arrears had accumulated before his tenure.

"The salaries for the period of my tenure are supposed to be paid by January 31, 2027," he said.

He said the institution had sought advice from Mashiur Rahman, Director of the Finance and Audit Wing of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, regarding payment of the arrears.

Shamsun Nahar Maksuda, District Education Officer of Kishoreganj, said she learnt about the matter from this correspondent.

"I don't know when they were appointed, how long they worked or when they were dismissed. However, if there is money in the school fund, they should be paid as much of their dues as possible upon dismissal," she said.

Asked whether the current acting principal should address arrears from the previous period, she said, "Whoever is in charge has the responsibility to look into the matter."
