Turkey has requested that Interpol issue a Red Notice against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in connection with an alleged attack on the Gaza-bound Global Freedom Flotilla, Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek said.
In a post on X, Gürlek said arrest warrants had been issued on July 14 against Netanyahu and another individual identified as Afek Moskovich over allegations including genocide. He said the Interior Ministry had been asked to begin the process of locating the two internationally.
Gürlek said the case, being heard by Istanbul’s 11th Heavy Penal Court, involves 35 defendants. The case concerns an armed attack in international waters targeting civilians who were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Netanyahu and Moskovich are facing prosecution on a range of charges, including crimes against humanity, torture, intentionally causing injury, deprivation of liberty, property damage, robbery and hijacking of transportation.
“We will not allow the crimes committed in Gaza to be covered up, nor will we allow the perpetrators to be protected with impunity,” Gürlek wrote on X.
