A coach of the Rajshahi-bound Barendra Express train derailed this morning in the Puranapail area of Joypurhat when the spring wheel got broken, resulting in a halt of train operations between northern Bangladesh and other parts of the country.
The incident took place in the morning around 9 am as the train which departed from Chilahati was approaching Puranapail after crossing Panchbibi Station. The sudden failure of the wheel spring caused the derailment of one of the coach which made a loud sound.
There have been no major accidents reported thus far.
Joypurhat Railway Station Master Rafique Chowdhury has stated that rescue teams from Pakshi and Parbatipur have been sent to the site to remove the affected coach and repair the damaged rail tracks.
He explained that the service on the route will be suspended until recovery and repair works are completed.
Many other trains have been stuck at various stations because of the incident which caused a great trouble to the passengers who have to travel in connection with the services to and from northern Bangladesh.
Railway officials are trying to complete the recovery process to resume train operations.
