A man has been detained for allegedly secretly recording a woman inside a washroom at Star Cineplex in Finlay Square, located in the Two No. Gate area of Chattogram city.
The detainee has been identified as Jitu Pal, 23, a resident of Anwara Upazila in Chattogram. He had reportedly been working as a cleaner at the cineplex for the past seven to eight months.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman went to the washroom while visiting Star Cineplex at Finlay Square with her family on Friday night. At one point, she reportedly noticed that someone was attempting to secretly record her with a mobile phone. Realizing what was happening, she allegedly caught Jitu Pal red-handed.
People nearby subsequently checked Jitu Pal’s mobile phone. They claimed that they found a secretly recorded video of the woman on the device. It was also alleged that the phone contained secret recordings of several other women made at different times.
After the incident, local residents informed the police. A team from Panchlaish Police Station went to the scene and later detained Jitu Pal and took him to the police station.
Police said, "the allegation is currently under investigation. The videos found on the detainee’s phone are being examined and verified. Further legal action will be taken after investigating the authenticity of the allegations, the purpose of the recordings and other relevant matters."
Officials of Panchlaish Police Station confirmed the incident and said the allegation is being investigated seriously. Legal action will be taken in accordance with the law following completion of the investigation.
