A battery rickshaw policy would be framed soon by the government, said Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Dr Zahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday.

Speaking in a press conference held at the Secretariat, he said that the increasing number of battery-run rickshaws in Dhaka city’s main roads has led to traffic jams along with the issues of driver training and the quality of rickshaws.

He further said that the policy would help set rules about where and how much the rickshaws could run. It would also establish the quality criteria of such vehicles.

Furthermore, the adviser said that 41 lakh families would get their family cards this fiscal year. Around Tk 14,000 crore had been allotted for the scheme. The second phase of the scheme started in Latifabad Union of Kishoreganj where 457 people got their family cards.

He said that the scheme would make poor families financially strong.
