Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam has ordered the removal of all illegal parking spaces and shops around Badamtoli Market in Old Dhaka.

The administrator issued the directive on Tuesday after DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman sought DSCC’s assistance in addressing illegal structures and parking problems in the area.

Welcoming the decision, Anisur Rahman said the prompt action would help the authorities carry out an eviction drive and ease the long-standing traffic congestion in Badamtoli.

Meanwhile, DSCC has suspended all activities at the newly built car parking facility beneath Babubazar Bridge in Ward 32 until further notice following a report in a national daily alleging extortion in the area in the name of the city corporation.

The suspension covers the car parking facility operated across four blocks, from A to D, occupying 28,051.12 square feet of open space.

“City corporation is for serving the people. So, the corporation will neither do anything that causes public suffering or harms its image nor allow anyone else to do so,” Abdus Salam said.
