Wife of former President detained

Police have arrested Bidisha Ershad, the second wife of late President and Jatiya Party founder Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, following her conviction and two-year prison sentence in a fraud case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

She was arrested around 8:30 PM on Tuesday from Arabica Restaurant in Gulshan-2, Dhaka.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station, Md Daud Hossain, confirmed the arrest.

According to the police, a case was filed against Bidisha Ershad with Gulshan Police Station over financial fraud. A court sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 in connection with the case. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against her.

OC Daud Hossain stated, "She was arrested around 8:30 PM on Tuesday from Arabica Restaurant in Gulshan-2 on the basis of the arrest warrant."

Police reported that following her arrest, Bidisha Ershad was taken to Gulshan Police Station.
