Panic broke out at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday (August 27) morning after three snakes were spotted on the 19th floor of Building No. 6, which houses the Ministry of Education.
The floor contains the offices of both the Education Minister and the Secretary.
Witnessing officials said employees first noticed two snakes in the corridor upon entering the office in the morning. Shortly after, a third snake was seen moving in the area.
The sudden appearance of the snakes created widespread panic among officers and staff. Employees eventually managed to kill all three snakes, though their species could not be immediately identified.
Staff members expressed deep surprise over how snakes reached the 19th floor of the high-rise building. Many suspect that snakes may have nested and laid eggs inside one of the floor's storage rooms, leading to hatchlings slithering out into the corridor.
A program officer based on the 19th floor said officials and employees became terrified watching the snakes move through the hallway. He questioned how they reached such a high floor, adding that maintenance staffs have been asked to inspect the area and clear potential nesting spots to ensure safety.
