Morsalin Ahmed of the ChessBangladesh dot com emerged as the chess champion of the CUTE-BSPA Sports Carnival 2026 after finishing top of the standings on Friday at Home of BSPA at the National Stadium in Dhaka.
The event saw a gripping battle for the title, with Morsalin and Ashrafur Rahman Murad both completing the seven-round round-robin tournament on 6.5 points. Morsalin, however, claimed the championship on the tie-break, edging Murad into the runners-up position.
Morsalin remained unbeaten throughout the rapid chess event, collecting six wins and a draw to finish with 6.5 points. Zahid Munir secured third place with five points, while Ali Jabed finished fourth on four points.
The tournament was played with a time control of 10 minutes with a five-second increment, with eight participants competing over seven rounds in a round-robin format.
More than 100 members of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) are taking part in the CUTE-BSPA Sports Carnival across eight disciplines and 12 events. The disciplines include carrom singles and doubles, table tennis singles and doubles, chess, shooting, archery, swimming, call bridge and twenty-nine.
The remaining events are being held at the National Stadium and its adjoining venues.
